IN-PERSON WORKSHOP: Character and Conflict with Kate Messner (Austin, TX)
Believable, fully-realized characters are at the heart of every MG and YA novel, and time spent thoughtfully developing both protagonists and secondary characters can take a story from pretty good to absolutely amazing.
Join award-winning and NYT-bestselling author Kate Messner for a deep dive into character development that will help you to refine your characters' traits, desires, and relationships, with an eye on turning up the tension and conflict in your story. Come with your laptop or notebook, ready to write and discover the secrets your characters have been hiding from you.
A perfect choice for NaNoWriMo, this workshop is designed for MG and YA writers at all stages of the writing process, from initial brainstorming to revision. Writers will leave with a character-development toolbox that will be useful for future projects as well as works-in-progress.
In order to ensure the health, safety, and comfort of all attendees, this event will be held in our large, high ceiling Hall (open doors and double ventilation) where students will be able to sit and learn 6ft. apart.
