Kidlit 101 with Victoria J. Coe & Cheryl Lawton Malone
Do you dream of publishing a picture book? Or a novel for young people? Have you written your manuscript but don’t know what to do next? If so, this one-session class is for you!
Kidlit 101 is a fast-paced course designed to highlight the entire kidlit writing process, from initial ideas to publication and beyond. No question is too random or silly. Plus, in a series of short lectures, we’ll dive into the intricacies of the marketplace. Followed by lots of fun, interactive exercises designed to hone your writing skills – specifically how to develop engaging characters, build amazing worlds, and nail down that all-to-often-overlooked ingredient—voice. We’ll end with a frank and practical Q&A regarding topics of interest, including agents, editors, and publishing.
With over 350,000 of our books sold, we two self-proclaimed craft nerds are ready to tell you what you need to know. Doesn’t hurt that we’re also kidlit writing teachers with a new business, Write On Productions, LLC, whose goal is to help people “write the book that kids (or teens) want to read.” We draw all of our material and exercises from our real-life writing classes, which have been vetted by hundreds of students, some of whom have gone on to hugely successful publishing careers.
Let’s make sure you’re next! Write the book that kids want to read!
