Nancy Churnin Faculty

Nancy Churnin writes picture books about people that inspire kids to make a positive difference in the world and provides free teacher guides, resources and a project for each book on her website that encourage and celebrate kids to be heroes and heroines, too. Dear Mr. Dickens, the true story of a woman who spoke up to Charles Dickens, won the 2021 National Jewish Book Award and 2022 Sydney Taylor Honor; A Queen to the Rescue, about Henrietta Szold, who saved 11,000 children from the Holocaust, won a 2022 Sydney Taylor Notable. Among the honors for her 10 biographies: Junior Library Guild selections, starred reviews, National Council for the Social Studies Notables, Silver Eurekas, Mighty Girl lists, Bank Street College of Education Best Children’s Books, Sakura Medal finalist, Notable Book for a Global Society, Anne Izard Storytellers Choice Award and a South Asia Book award. Nancy lives in North Texas with her family, which includes a dog named Dog and two cantankerous cats.

Class recordings will be made available only to those who cannot make the class, including those for whom last-minute tech issues (wifi access, etc.) prevents them from participating. Recordings are available for two weeks following the class date, then deleted.
