How do you write about unfamiliar heroes in a way that will make the kids want to know them? Many of Nancy Churnin's stories are about people that the kids never heard of before they read the stories.
On the one hand, that can be a marketing challenge, as you can't "sell" their name the way you can if they are commercially recognizable. But it's also a thrill when the story itself makes the character famous in a child's heart.
